Class M9

 Class M9 in Sri Lanka Railways was ordered in 1997, 10 locomotive units were imported from Alstom, France in 2000. These locomotives had mechanical problems for many years and were removed from service. In 2010 an Indian company renovated some of these engines and they were back to service there are only 3 M9 engines in service,

M9 872, M9 866, M9 867 

These engines are used in the MainLine ( Up to Kandy ), Coastal and Northern lines. These train engines can't operate on the Badulla Line ( Upcountry Line ) because of their length. Class M9 867 mostly hauls the Kandy - Colombo morning ICE ( 6.15 a.m. ) and the Colombo - Kandy ICE ( 3.35 P.M. ) I have gone on M9 867 3 times and to my opinion this train engine can haul the Kandy Intercity Express just fine.
