Trains that haul the train

This question depends, alot of Indian Trains cannot operate on the mainline from Rambukkana onwards because the train runs on a mountain side, which is also known as " Kadugannawa Kanda " Class M9 from Alstom, France has no problem running up to Kandy on the mainline but it cannot operate on the Matale and Badulla lines due to its length, There are pictures on google with Class M9 on the Badulla Line many years ago, but there are not used any more,

Indian Locomotive, Class M10a 945 was sent on a trial run to Kandy in 2013, The locomotive successfully climbed the Kadugannawa Mountain and arrived in Peradeniya. The devil's bridge in Peradeniya was under renovation so, the railway department didn't want to take the risk so the train ended its trial in Peradeniya. Some passengers said that the trial was sucessful others said it wasn't a success. The railway dept. of Sri Lanka railways had a plan to use this locomotive for the Kandy Intercity but sadly two days ago another M10 had derailed in Talawa so, the plan was terminated.
