Class M4
Class M4 is a very successful train engine in Sri Lanka. It was imported from Canada just like Class M2. The colours and design is very similar to Class M2. Class M4 was manufactured in a different locomotive works in Canada.

Given above are the names of the Class M4 engines. The names given are important landmarks in Sri Lanka such as, Mountains, Rivers and waterfalls. Class M4 752 "Point Pedro" was first painted with a ICE ( Intercity Express ) livery but later painted with a normal livery.
Soon as Class M4 was imported it was used on the upcountry line as the, Udarata Menike and Podi Menike express train. But after class M5 was imported they stopped using Class M4 on the upcountry line. Today class M4 travels on the mainline upto Polgahawela junction, Coastal railway line upto Beliatta, Northern railway line, Thairmannar railway line, Puttalam Railway and the Batticaloa and Trincomalee railway lines. It was never used on the Kelani Valley and Matale Railway lines.
Class M4 hauls many daily commuter trains such as, Rejarata Rejina, Bangedeniya Express, Thalirmannar expess and the Thalirmannar night mail train.
